PSKUS

Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital (PSCUH) plans to begin construction of another large block. This new block is part of the most significant and expensive projects in Latvian healthcare. To understand this project, let’s look at a few facts:

  1. Block B plan:
    • Estimated cost: the provisional cost of the new Block B is EUR 136,991,266.
    • Area and beds: the block will house 315 beds, and its total area will be 39,830 square metres.
    • Demolition: to build the new Block B, the No. 32 building, repeatedly criticised for its technical condition, will have to be demolished. The provisional demolition cost is EUR 1,210,000.
    • Departments: Block B will house various departments, such as the Latvian Cardiology Centre, Vascular Surgery Centre, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery Unit, Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine, Differential Diagnostics Department and others.
  2. Block A expansion:
    • Block A stage 2 construction works are planned to begin in April next year and continue until December 2021. In total, the entire stage 2 of Block A is intended to be completed by May 2022.
    • Funding: the total project cost is EUR 91.069 million, most of which is European Regional Development Fund funding (71%), 24% is state funding, and the remaining 5% is hospital funds.

These projects are important for improving healthcare infrastructure in Latvia and ensuring better access for patients.
